MVP vs. Perfection: why 80 % is often better than 100 %

Dart arrows missing the center of the target - a metaphor for accepting 80% instead of perfect 100%

That's why we at Sprintwerk rely on the MVP approach, i.e., a "Minimum Viable Product". Sounds like cutting corners? It's actually the faster path to better results.

What is an MVP actually?

An MVP is the first functional version of a product with just enough features that users can meaningfully use it and provide feedback. It's not a rough draft, but a smart prototype with real utility. Goal: test quickly, learn, improve.

This doesn't mean we develop carelessly – quite the opposite. MVPs force us to maintain focus: What is truly relevant for the target audience? What is unnecessary ballast?

Why 80 % is often better than 100 %

  • Faster to market:
An MVP gets you into real usage sooner. You learn faster where you're right and where you're not.

  • Less risk:
Instead of investing in a big 'all-or-nothing' product, you take small, validated steps. This protects resources and nerves.

  • Better feedback:
Users can only evaluate what they experience. MVPs create exactly this foundation – concrete feedback instead of hypothetical assumptions.

  • Iterative learning:
With each sprint, each release, your product grows organically along real needs, not just assumptions.

Perfection as a stumbling block

Perfection in the concept phase is deceptive: It tempts you to treat assumptions as truths. But the market decides what works, not the most beautiful presentation or the most detail-obsessed specification. Of course, there are industries (e.g., medical technology) where 100% is necessary. But for most digital products, the rule is: Done is better than perfect.

Our approach at Sprintwerk

We think digitally pragmatic. Together with our clients, we identify the core value, boldly trim features, and proceed iteratively. This way, we create digital solutions that work and can grow.

Because what looks like 80% today is often the fastest path to real 100% – just in stages.
